Tim Tebow, formerly of the Denver Broncos, was traded to the New York Jets Wednesday, March 21 (a fourth round pick for a former first round draft pick). The question one must ask of the NY Jets, is "why did you make this deal"?
Last week the Jets signed former Detroit Lions QB Drew Stanton as the backup to Mark Sanchez who, earlier this month signed a contract extension with the Jets for five years and 58 million dollars.
Does signing Tebow, from a personnel standpoint, make sense (other than, perhaps, to the NY Jets who must always live in a sea of controversy). The answer to that question is yes. Expect to see Tebow in for third and short, fourth and one or inside the five yard line in a tight game. Remember, the Jets new offensive co-ordinator is Tony Sporano, the man who popularized the Wildcat offense in the NFL.
What did Rex Ryan and the Jets GM see in Tebow? Perhaps it was Tim's unquenchable desire to win, his tremendous competitive spirit, or maybe, his discipline and focus on the task at hand--doing what ever is necessary to achieve his desired goal of winning football games. These are traits and characteristics that are severely lacking in the Jets locker room.

However, in my opinion, the MAIN reason the Jets signed Tim Tebow, was to create some publicity, hopefully positive publicity for the Jets. The NY Giants won this season's Super Bowl. They were receiving all the publicity in New York city, the media capital of America. The woeful Jets, haven't won anything since legendary Jets QB Joe Namath "guaranteed" a victory over Earl Morall and the Baltimore Colts in Super Bowl III. (By the way, "Broadway Joe Namath" was a bit disdainful of the trade).
The Jets NEEDED Tim Tebow, much more than Tim Tebow needed them. This trade was all about the Jets wanting to gain media attention, to counter all the media publicity the NY Giants and their QB, Eli Manning, have recently been receiving, regardless of the QB controversy this move is bound to bring to the team during the upcoming season. By the way, picture this scenario--the saintly Tebow in a team meeting with the wild and crazy Jets and their loudmouthed, vulgar head coach, Rex Ryan. Wonder, what that will be like.
Can Tebow handle the relentless onslaught of the New York media who will be looking for ANY reason to rip and tear him down? Is bringing Tebow to New York throwing the "Christian" Tebow to the New York media "lions"? The media "lions" in New York must be salivating at the thought of the "Christian" Tebow in their lion's den. They will never run out of stories to write--stories written about Tim with their own anti-christian slant. Just wait and see how they treat Tebow. Hope Tim has a very, very thick skin--he is going to need one.
Man, I can't wait for the 2012 NFL season. This is a season that will have more drama and theater than any season in recent memory.

Sure, Tebow can run the spread offense and the read option. Maybe, his presence can add to the Jet's offense. Maybe, Tebow can push Sanchez to perform better. For sure, Tim Tebow brings his legion of fans to the Jets (Jets jersey sales will increase, perhaps ticket sales will too). But the MAIN reason the Jets made the trade for Tim Tebow, was to counter all the media attention the NY Giants were receiving for having won last season's Super Bowl. That reason, is why the Jets traded for Tim Tebow.
