WHY THE TEXANS SHOULD DRAFT COBY FLEENER IN ROUND 1

MIAMI, FL - JANUARY 03: Coby Fleener #82 of the Stanford Cardinal catches a 58-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter against Davon Morgan #2 of the Virginia Tech Hokies during the 2011 Discover Orange Bowl at Sun Life Stadium on January 3, 2011 in Miami, Florida. The Texans desperately need to draft a top receiver with their first round pick in this year's draft.  Yes, I said "DESPERATELY".  Starting receivers Andre Johnson and Kevin Walter  will  both be 31 years old  when the season starts. Two wide receivers in their early thirties? Not good for any team.  Andre has been hurt in each of the last two seasons and may have lost a step in his speed.

The consensus top receivers coming out in this year's draft will probably be gone by the time the Texans get their first pick in Round 1.

These wide receivers are some of the better wideouts in this year's draft:

*Justin Blackmon from-6 ft. 1 in. 4.46 in the forty-over 200 catches at Oklahoma State-fights for the ball and breaks tackles-may be  a top five  pick. No chance for the Texans to get Blackmon.

*Michael Floyd from Notre Dame-6 ft. 3 in. 4,43 forty, ****breaks tackles and gains yards after he catches the ball****probably no chance to draft him.  Will go in the first half of Round 1.

*Kendall Wright from Baylor-5 ft. 10 in. -small but fast--very good after he catches the ball--a possibility for the Texans. Can return punts and kickoffs. Will go in the first round.

*Stephen Hill from Georgia Tech--6 ft. 4 in. 215 and a 4.31 forty.  Not afraid to block.  Comes outof a running offense at Georgia Tech.  Has  "HUGE UPSIDE".   My  choice for the Texans if they can't get Coby Fleener from Stanford.

*Reuben Randle from LSU-excellent size-6 ft. 3 in. 210 lbs. runs a 4.43 forty.  A hard worker who didn't play in a quality passing offense at LSU.  Could go late in the first round. A definite possibility for the Texans.  Would be another good choice if the Texans can't get Fleener.

*Alshon Jeffery from  South Carolina--excellent  size-6 ft. 3 in. and 216 lbs. runs a 4.43 forty. A possible choice for the Texans. Needs to watch his weight.

*T.Y. Hilton from Florida International is small--5 ft. 9 in. runs a 4.36 forty, has good hands. The  Texans might luck out and grab him in the later rounds--perhaps the fourth.

*Coby Fleener from Stanford-6 ft. 6 in. and weighs in at 245 lbs. Runs a 4.5 forty. Played in a Pro offense at Stanford.  Smart and physical.  Is not an effective blocker but has shown improvement.  Would be a great target for Schaub in the Red Zone. Can you imagine a D coordinator trying to match up his defensive backs with a guy this big and fast?  And having to cover Andre and Kevin?

Fleener is my choice for the Texans.  Another reliable target for Matt Schaub would help the Texans go far this year--maybe farther than they went last year.
